India

A trillion dollar plus GDP with a billion plus people make India an interesting player in the Global Economy. The only other country with this unique distinction is China. However, most of India, like much of China, is still caught in the misery and degradation of poverty. Good food, decent clothing, and adequate shelter still remain desirable yet unachievable tangibles for most Indians. Literacy rate in India is 61% (ranked 147 out of 177 in the world) vis-a-vis China's 93.3% (Ranked 80th in the world), based on 2009 UNDP data.

However, as India's democracy consolidates itself, and as India moves from a socialistic state to selective capitalistic principles like entrepreneurship, industry (hard-work coupled with education), and open markets based on evolving ideas like Game Theory, its economy is poised to become a dominant Global Economy by the later half of twenty-first century. In fact, the current devaluation of the Indian Rupee vis-a-vis the Dollar is giving Chinese manufacturers a run for their money when it comes to exporting manufacturing goods to the United States.

India's educated middle-class, which is fluent in English, makes India an easy business partner with the United States. However, the recent emphasis of English education in China and Chinese education in the United States shows that Indians still have mountains to climb, before they are taken seriously by Americans as Global players.
